Visit the 02 arena

The O2 is hailed as the best music venue in the country, and quite rightly so.  It has the second largest seating capacity of any indoor venue in the UK, the largest being Manchester, however since 2001 it has held the title as the world’s busiest music venue with sales of over two million tickets a year.

Not only a state of the art arena, the arena concourse is home to dozens of restaurants and bars as well as cinemas, a bowing complex and nightclubs. In fact the arena itself makes up only 40% of the total dome structure.  Be aware that on an event night the restaurants get really busy and most won’t take bookings so be sure to arrive with plenty of time to allow for any queues.

Getting to the O2 by train couldn’t be much easier.  The nearest station is the Charlton Mainline station.  From there you can catch any number of buses to North Greenwich Underground Station and from there it is a 9 minute walk to the O2.

If you’re travelling by train, simply take the train to Charlton Station.  From there, either take a cab or a bus (the 08, 129, 132, 161, 188, 422, 472 or the 486) 2 miles to Greenwich Tube Station, which is within very easy walking distance to the O2. 

Don’t forget, if you are travelling by train, be sure to buy your tickets in advance to save on your journey!

Up at the O2 

If you’re looking for a unique gift idea or just a fun and unusual day out, the O2 now offers you the chance to scale the dome! Available by booking only, once there you will be given special climb suits, boots and a harness and a climbing instructor who will be with you every step of the way for 90 minutes, to not only keep you safe but to tell you what you are looking at. Available as an excursion day or night, there is something truly magical about being in the open air, looking at the lights of Canary Wharf on a summers evening.  However this is England, so be aware that in the event of extreme weather, your climb will be postponed!

Coming up at the O2 

If you’re quick (and by ‘quick’ we imagine we’re talking minutes, if not seconds!) then tickets for One Direction’s 2015 tour are going on sale shortly.  The concerts will take place on 24th, 25th and 26th September show casing their latest album as well as their ‘old’ stuff!

Perhaps your daughters are more into Elsa than Harry, in which case why not treat them to a sing along Frozen in their own log cabin, complete with a karaoke recording to take away and a photo opportunity with Elsa on her icy throne.  ‘Let it go’ will never sound the same again once your little darlings have recorded their own version!

For any X Factor fans out there, the O2 will play host to the tour on the 20th and 21st March 2015.  They haven’t yet announced who will be featured but it is usually the final eight acts that make it through to the live tour.
